Next Tuesday (12), at 6 pm, the Casa de Cultura Heloísa Alberto Torres will open the exhibition “Itaboraí, Fragments of the Past”, by visual artist Cris Rosa. Born in Itaboraí, where she lives and works, Cris Rosa has built a solid artistic career since 1991, dedicated to portraying, in her oil paintings, scenes and characters from the history of her hometown and has already exhibited at CCHAT itself. Admission is free.

Cris Rosa graduated in Fine Arts from Universidade Salgado de Oliveira (Universo) in 1997, and also holds postgraduate degrees in Art Therapy from Universidade Cândido Mendes (2002) and in Education and Racial Relations from Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF, 2017). With a work marked by nostalgia, her paintings are visual chronicles that narrate memories of a time and a place, recording houses, landscapes and people of Itaboraí over the decades. Recently, her career was recognized by the Municipal Chamber of Itaboraí, which granted her a Motion of Commendation for her outstanding work in fine arts.

The exhibition “Itaboraí, Fragments of the Past” brings together a series of works based on extensive historical research. Inspired by old photographs, primary accounts, books, periodicals and conversations with historians, the artist has created a collection that aims to strengthen the community’s sense of belonging and expand local memory beyond the city’s borders, as an important part of Brazil’s history.

Cris Rosa has had her works exhibited at the Heloísa Alberto Torres Cultural Center on several occasions, the most recent being in 2022. Now, upon returning to the space, she reflects: “Returning to the Heloísa Alberto Torres Cultural Center after two years brings me feelings of joy, renewal, nostalgia, expectations and pride in being part of the cultural community.”

The undersecretary of culture of Itaboraí and manager of CCHAT, Alan Mota, highlighted the importance of Cris Rosa's exhibition for the municipality.

“It is an honor to have this artist with us, brightening up CCHAT, who is bringing, this time, an unprecedented exhibition that shows old Itaboraí. Cris is a great supporter of talent in our city”, praised the manager.

Exhibition “Miniatures”, by Vicente Mendonça

On the same day, the Casa de Cultura Heloísa Alberto Torres will also open the Local Artist Bira Alma Reggae Room to host the “Miniatures” exhibition by Vicente Mendonça, which will display his vast collection of miniatures, including the smallest model of a volleyball court, made on the head of a nail, registered with RankBrasil, an independent company that documents Brazilian records.

Born in Ceará, resident of Itaboraí and a student at the municipal school system, carpenter Vicente dedicates himself to reproducing tourist attractions, places and historical moments in his miniatures, such as Noah's Ark, the Rio-Niterói Bridge, the Colosseum in Rome and the Heloísa Alberto Torres Cultural Center itself.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome the great genius of miniatures, especially knowing that he is a student of the municipal education system of Itaboraí. Mr. Vicente will make history in this exhibition”, declared Alan Mota, proud to open space for a great artist.
