1ST CCHAT CORDEL MEETING TAKES PLACE ON SATURDAY, THE 19TH

The Casa de Cultura Heloísa Alberto Torres promotes next Saturday, the 19th, at 6 pm, its 1st Cordel Meeting. The meeting is the graduation event of the Cordel Workshop, taught by the poet and cordel writer Zé Salvador at CCHAT this semester. The event will feature the delivery of certificates to students who have completed the activities, the participation of invited writers and cordel writers and the launch of two cordel leaflets written by the students.

The Cordel Literature Workshop, offered free of charge by CCHAT in partnership with Zé Salvador, presented the fundamentals of this very Brazilian art, including aspects of the metric and rhyme specific to cordel, as well as the history of the literary genre. As Zé Salvador points out, it was a very practical workshop, in which the participants got their "hands dirty" to produce verses and stanzas. So much so that Zé Salvador still held two extra meetings, in addition to the eight classes planned.

"The objective of the Workshop is not to train new cordel writers, but to awaken interest in cordel and, who knows, reveal new talents to the cordel world", explains Zé Salvador. In addition to several short texts in cordel format, the students produced the leaflets "The Cordel in action occupying its space" and "Zé Salvador's visit to Itaboraí", with 32 stanzas in sextile (six verses) each, which will be released on the 19th.

The manager of the Casa de Cultura, Undersecretary of Culture in Itaboraí, Alan Mota, says that the Cordel Workshop was a highly successful initiative.

"Cordel Literature is an intangible heritage listed by IPHAN and we, at CCHAT, are doing our role in preserving and disseminating this art, counting on the initiative, partnership and collaboration of one of its great names, the poet Zé Salvador. Our expectation is that this project will continue and open new classes soon", comments the manager.

The 1st CCHAT Cordel Meeting will be free and open to the public, as well as to writers who want to present their texts in cordel or in honor of cordel – since there will also be an open microphone. It will be a celebration of cordel, also with the reading of excerpts from some classic cordels. There will be free distribution of the two leaflets produced by the students, which were printed by CCHAT.
