The Casa de Cultura Heloísa Alberto Torres preserves a valuable collection that reflects the rich history of Itaboraí, of the anthropologist Heloísa Alberto Torres, after whom the institution is named, and of her family. Located in the center of the city of Itaboraí, its material is in a constant process of cataloguing and digitization, in the quest to ensure that this cultural heritage is accessible to future generations.
With more than 7 thousand works already discovered in the current administration, the personal library of Heloísa Alberto Torres and her family is the highlight of the collection. Approximately 80% of the works have already been classified after an extensive screening in printed format and more than 1,000 books are digitized in a computerized system for the management of bibliographic collections. This work is carried out entirely by the Casa de Cultura team, under the management of the Itaboraí City Hall in terms of use, assignment and technical cooperation/agreement with the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN).
In addition to the books, the collection includes a variety of precious items, such as documents, letters, photographs and research that portray the life and legacy of the anthropologist and her family. This documentary collection is being catalogued and digitized by the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences (MAST), also in partnership with IPHAN.
On the second floor of the Casa de Cultura, visitors will find items from the museum collection, all identified to provide an enriching experience. These items include historic furniture that belonged to the Alberto Torres family and to illustrious figures from Itaboraí, such as Joaquim Manuel de Macedo, consolidating the Casa as a space of memory and learning.

The Casa de Cultura Heloísa Alberto Torres remains dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Itaboraí, making its collection accessible for research, studies and public appreciation.
